Clare Inspires a Community!

HDYO has more information about HD available for young people, parents and professionals on our site:

HDYO depends on the generosity of supporters to offer free programs for young people and families impacted by HD. Clare ran a half marathon to raise funds for HDYO and inspired the community around her in honor of her mom. She also continues to inspire the team at HDYO!

Here's Clare's Story: It's 2 years this month since I was due to run the original London Landmarks Half Marathon in 2020 to raise money for HDYO, an amazing charity that helps young people impacted by Huntington's Disease. I've been a volunteer board member for the last few years. I'd trained, we'd fundraised, including a fantastic quiz held Feb 20. Then, Covid struck and everything was cancelled - just after I'd done my last long run!
The race was rearranged for August 2021. Sadly, we had lost Mum to HD in the January so I ran it for her and took up my fundraising again.
This and the pandemic were not the best circumstances to train for a race, but it was an amazing event. I had a great cheering squad in my sister Jo and had a really fun time exploring the London Landmarks. It kept my mind off the running! 2021 was also the year of a big birthday, so I wanted to raise money throughout the year.
Amazingly over the last 2 years, I've raised £4100 for HDYO. That includes the quiz, sponsorship for the 2020 & 2021 and some very generous donations from friends and family. That money will help young people impacted by HD something that I'm very passionate about.
